Managed under the close eye of Russell Corfield, Aylsham
Growers takes pride in what they do, working closely with
its members on a day to day basis to ensure that they are
consistently achieving the very best standards.
With the ever increasing pressure of rising costs vs. increasing
pressure on price being driven by the supermarkets, Aylsham
Growers are continually having to look at the business and
adapt to remain both viable and competitive within today's market
by meeting these challenges head on. These challenges are welcomed
by Russell, who see's these as a way to improve performance and
service as well as find new ways to streamline the overall
business.
Assurance
In order to remain ahead and strive to be the best at what we
do, we only grow on the best land possible, which requires each
individual field to be assessed, paying close attention to soil
structure, previous cropping and drainage to ensure the crop gets
off to the best start. Careful selection of varieties from a range
of breeders (Limagrain, Syngenta, Nunhems, Elsoms, Van Waveren, 4P
Seeds) is crucial as this ultimately determines the best quality,
colour, flavour and texture.
From drilling through to harvest Aylsham
Growers manager, Russell Corfield who is BASIS, FACTS and
BETA registered keeps a close eye on how fields are performing.
With the help of outside agronomists, they work together to ensure
crops are performing at 100%, whilst at the same time ensuring Good
Agricultural Practice is followed.
In doing so all of Aylsham Growers members are part of the
Assured Produce Scheme for which they are audited
annually. This is an industry recognised standard, covering all
aspects of crop growing, which sets out to maintain, develop and
promote Assurance standards within the fresh produce
industry. The aim is to provide consumers and retailers
with confidence about product quality attributes including food
safety and environmental protection. In doing so it demonstrates to
our customer that our growers are producing peas on farms that are
managed by well-qualified, caring, highly professional growers.
What's our secret?
Having a team with a combined knowledge of over 70 years
experience has been the key to our success along with
Russell's youth and enthusiasm to drive the business forward over
recent years. Thanks to the continued support of our members we
continue to invest in our machinery and are now running one of the
most modern fleets of viners in the country, using
less diesel thanks to the new improved engines and therefore
lowering our carbon emissions.
